ProPov: Kick Off a New Reality

An XR exploration project that blends my passion for football with my first experimental forays into immersive technology to redefine the fan experience.

What if you could see the game through the eyes of your soccer heroes? That question has guided my journey in conceptualizing ProPov, a vision for an AR/VR soccer experience that explores how technology can transform the way we engage with the sport we love.

The Inspiration

The idea for ProPov came from a lifelong passion for soccer and a fascination with immersive technologies. I wanted to bridge the gap between being a fan and truly feeling part of the action. ProPov (short for "Player's Perspective") emerged as an experiment in reimagining how we connect with the game—not just as spectators but as participants.

It’s about more than entertainment; it’s about perspective. What does a split-second decision look like from the midfielder’s eyes? How does a goalkeeper read the play moments before a save? ProPov seeks to explore answers to these questions through thoughtful design and immersive potential.

The Prototype

Conceptualizing and prototyping this idea was as much about discovery as it was about design. Using a VR 3D modeling application, I started conceptualizing a virtual soccer experience that places users in the thick of the game. Key features include:

  • 3D Spatial Object Interactions: Users can interact with key game elements like players and ball trajectories in a fully 3D space, enhancing the sense of control and engagement.

  • Spatial Audio Integration: Designed to mimic in-stadium surround sound, spatial audio amplifies the immersion, making crowd roars and field communication feel incredibly real.

  • Virtual Field Experience: A 360-degree environment that lets users switch between player perspectives, from a striker's high-pressure moment to a defender’s calculated anticipation.

  • Interactive UI: Designed to be intuitive and adaptable, the interface allows seamless toggling between stats, replays, and tactical views.

  • Vision OS Integration: The spatial computing capabilities of Vision OS became a natural fit, enabling immersive overlays, real-time interaction, and seamless integration of 3D spatial objects.

Reflecting on the Process

Working on ProPov has been an exercise in exploring the intersection of sports, technology, and human connection. It’s fascinating to see how augmented and virtual reality can deepen our understanding of a game that so many of us hold dear. There’s a thrill in re-creating the stadium atmosphere for those who might never get to experience it in person or helping fans appreciate the game’s strategic intricacies.

This journey has also been a lesson in the potential and limits of current technology. There’s so much more to refine, so many ways to push this concept further. But the excitement of prototyping, of translating a vision into something beyond an idea in my head, has been immensely rewarding.

What’s Next?

For now, ProPov represents the potential of what’s possible for the future of spectator sports and AR technology. It’s a starting point; a step into a future where fans and players are closer than ever.
